The Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) of the Lagos All Progressives Congress (APC) has endorsed Babajide Sanwo-Olu for the governorship ticket of the party.
Concise News understands that Sanwo-Olu will face Akinwunmi Ambode, the incumbent governor in the primary on Monday.
A member of GAC, Anthony Adefuye, announced the endorsement of Sanwo-Olu to party members on Saturday, after a stakeholders’ meeting.
Making the announcement, Adefuye said: “There was a GAC meeting held this morning which was attended by the Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, majority leader of the house of representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, speaker, house of assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, and others,” he said.
The GAC member said the Advisory Council arrived at the endorsement after deliberating for hours.
Adefuye disclosed that the meeting, chaired by Bola Tinubu, chieftain of the APC, had in attendance prominent members of the party.
He further said: “This meeting was chaired by our national leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. This is a meeting that we started at 10 am, and we couldn’t finish early,” he said.
“After the meeting, I have been mandated by the GAC to announce this to you.
“The gubernatorial primary earlier scheduled for tomorrow, September 30th, has been shifted to Monday, October 1.
“Also, the GAC was informed by Dr Obafemi Hamzat of his decision to graciously step down and endorse Jide Sanwoolu.
“GAC has endorsed Babajide Sanwoolu as its preferred candidate ahead of the primary.”
Adefuye added that the choice of Sanwo-Olu, a former commissioner, was in the interest of the state and the party.
This comes few hours after Concise News had reported earlier that 36 out of 40 Lagos lawmakers also endorsed Sanwo-Olu.
