The Nigerian Maritime Academy (NIMASA) has said it would start a search and rescue mission for the kidnapped 12 crew members of a Swiss vessel MV Glarus.

Concise News understands that they were abducted off the Bonny Island, Rivers State on Saturday as the ship was ferrying them to Port Harcourt.

“The pirate gang boarded the Glarus by means of long ladders and cut the razor wire on deck,” Geneva-based Massoel Shipping said.

However, the Director General of the Agency Dakuku Peterside while condemning the attack, assured that the agency was working for the rescue of the abducted.

“The issue of piracy in the Gulf of Guinea is a challenge we acknowledge and we are determined to tackle it head-on,” Dakuku said.

“We will continue to collaborate with the Nigerian Navy and other relevant partners to ensure we bring it to a halt. Zero tolerance to piracy and all forms of illegalities on our nation’s waterways is our goal.”
