Nigeria’s men basketball team have brightened their chances of qualifying for the 2019 FIBA World Cup in China after beating Cote d’Ivoire 84-73, their seventh win in the qualifiers, on Friday in Lagos.
The D’Tigers captain Ike Diogu scored 13 points while Ikechukwu Nwamu, Al Farouq Aminu and Ben Uzoho all scored 11 points each as the Nigerians won the first quarter 21-15 and extended their lead to nine points to finish the second quarter 41-32.
The former African champions won the third quarter 64-48 and went on to seal the match in the final quarter.
Nigeria will face Central Afrique in their next game on Saturday before taking on Senegal on Sunday.
Five tickets are at stake for the first-ever 32 team FIBA World Cup taking place in China from August 30 to September 15, 2019.
