Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets edged Niger Republic 2-1 to reach the final of the Wafu Zone B qualifiers for the Africa U-17 Cup of Nations.
Olakunle Olusegun and Akinwunmi Amoo were the goal scorers as the Eaglets overcame the hosts at the Stade Général Seyni Kountché, Niamey.
Niger made a promising start by dominating for a large period.
But the Nigerians somehow recovered from their apparent weariness to get the first goal through Amoo in the 43rd minute.
He tapped in from close range thanks to Muhammad Ibrahim’s assist as the opposing goalkeeper looked helplessly.
Olusegun doubled the lead in the 58th minute for his fourth goal of the championship.
The Baby Menas, however, got a goal in the closing stages of the tie but that could not hinder the former world champions.
The result means Nigeria will now face Ghana in the final on Saturday with the winner qualifying for the 2019 African U-17 Cup of Nations billed for Tanzania.
The Black Starlets silenced Cote d’Ivoire 2-1 in the first semi-final.
