Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr, has named the team for this afternoon’s 2019 Africa Cup Of Nations qualifier against Seychelles in Victoria.
The German tactician named Saudi Arabian based Ahmed Musa as captain of the team in the absence of substantive captain John Mikel Obi who is unavailable for this encounter.
The 25-year-old Musa who last captained the Super Eagles in March 2016 under former coach Sunday Oliseh, leads the team out despite the team’s vice-captain, Ogenyi Onazi returning to the starting line-up, according to the official line up tweeted by the Super Eagles handle.
Onazi, who is returning to the starting lineup after not being used for Nigeria at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia replaces Stoke City midfielder Oghenekaro Etebo who had a good outing in Russia.
Onazi will partner Wilfred Ndidi in midfield while Kelechi Iheanacho will play in the No.10 role.
In attack, Odion Ighalo who last scored a goal against Cameroon also makes a return to the first team after featuring as a substitute in the team’s last two games against Iceland and Argentina at the World Cup.
Ighalo has not scored in his last nine games. The Changchun Yatai striker will be flanked by Girondins Bordeaux star, Samuel Kalu who makes his first start and will play from the right wing position and Musa on the left.
Francis Uzuho will make his 10th appearance for the Super Eagles in goal while Brighton and Hove Albion defender Leon Balogun will partner with Kenneth Omeruo at the heart of the defence with Chidozie Awaziem and Bryan Idowu playing at right and left full back respectively.
