Nigeria defeated Seychelles 3-0 to get their 2019 African Cup of Nations qualifiers back on track after losing their first match in the qualifying series to South Africa.
Goals from Ahmed Musa, Chidozie Awaziem and Odion Ighalo handed the Super Eagles a comfortable win over the island nation.
Musa, captain of the day in the absence of the substantive captain Mikel Obi, opened the scoring in the 15th minute when he hit a ferocious left-footed shot that hit the bar before hitting the leg of the Seychelles goalkeeper and into the net.
The three-time African champions added a second just before the interval when defender Chidozie Awaziem followed up a rebound from Kelechi Iheanacho’s free-kick to put the ball beyond the goalkeeper’s reach.
The job of the day was done for the Nigerians when Ighalo sent the goalkeeper the wrong way from the penalty spot after lively debutant Samuel Kalu was fouled inside the 18-yard box.
As it stands, Nigeria are second in Group E with three points and the final standings for Round Two games would be decided after the conclusion of the other group game between South Africa and table-toppers Libya.
