INEC Rules Out Postponement Of 2019 Elections
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it will not postpone the 2019 elections because of the delay in the passage of its budget. INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu made the clarifications while fielding questions from State House correspondents on Friday in Abuja. Yakubu said that there was no provision under the law for postponement of elections.
N’Assembly Committees To Decide Source Of 2019 Elections Funding
The Joint Committee of the Nigerian Senate and House of Representatives Committees on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has resolved to determine how the Nigerian electoral umpire will fund its budget. Senator Suleiman Nazif, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Electoral Matters, disclosed this while addressing journalists in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital on Friday.
Many Trapped In Abuja Building Collapse
At least 18 persons are trapped under the rubble of a four-storey building which collapsed in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital on Friday, August 17. Unconfirmed reports said one person died when the four-storied building under construction collapsed on the workers and food sellers in the Jabi area of the city. According to reports, the building which collapsed at about 1.30 pm had over twenty-five people inside.
Osinbajo Visits Site Of Collapsed Abuja 4-storey Building
Acting President Yemi Osinbajo has visited the site of Friday’s four-storey building collapse in Abuja. He expressed satisfaction with the effort and prompt response of emergency, rescue operators and security agencies at the collapsed building at Jabi, FCT. Abuja. Osinbajo, who visited the scene at about 6.47 p.m on Friday, said that all hands were on deck to ensure rescue and saving the lives of those who could have been trapped in the building.
INEC Releases 2019 Elections Notice
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Friday released the notice of activities for the 2019 general elections. The notice was pasted at the Federal Capital Territory(FCT) office of INEC in Abuja. Ndidi Okafor, Head of Voter Education and Publicity Gender and Civil Society Liaison of INEC , FCT told reporters that the notice was in accordance with section 30 of the Electoral Act 2010.

FG Fixes Date To Shut Third Mainland Bridge
The Third Mainland Bridge will be closed for repair at the end of August, Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, said on Friday. The minister said that the Federal Government wanted to seize the opportunity of the sallah period when traffic would be light on the bridge.
