Real Madrid have reported Inter Milan to Fifa over claim that the Italian side illegally approached their midfielder Luka Modric.
The Croatia captain has been linked with a move to Serie A.
But Real president Florentino Perez has said that the only way the 2018 World Cup MVP would leave the European champions was if his 750 million euro (£671m) release clause was met.
In their response to Real’s claim, Inter said they have never had direct contact with the player and Fifa’s investigation is at a preliminary stage.
The transfer window in Italy closes on Friday.
