Germany international Toni Kroos has said the way Mesut Ozil retired from the national team was “not in order.”
Ozil quit the German team after they crashed out at the group stage of the 2018 World Cup in Russia, citing racism.
The Arsenal man said he was disrespected by the German fans and officials due to his Turkish origin.
However, Kroos said Ozil deserved a better departure from the national team.
“Basically Mesut is a deserved international and as a player, he deserved a better departure,” he told Bild. “But the way he resigned was not in order.
“The parts in his statement that are rightly addressed are unfortunately overshadowed by the significantly higher amount of nonsense.”
