Captain Harry Kane has rued England’s inability to net their chances in the 2-1 loss to Croatia at the 2018 World Cup on Wednesday.
Mario Mandzukic got an extra-time goal for the Croats in the semi-final clash to end England’s hopes of reaching their second final in the competition.
Speaking after the encounter, the Tottenhman man said he wanted his side to carry the day but noted they did not have enough to kill off the game.
“It’s been an amazing run but it hurts to lose, it really hurts. We wanted to go on and win it and we thought we had enough to go through but it wasn’t to be,” he told BBC.
“In big games, small margins make the difference and they had a ball that fell their way at the end and he stuck it away. We played well at the start and in extra time but we missed a few chances to kill them off.
“There are a lot of positives to take from this tournament. It’s a big stepping stone from two years ago.”
