The Senate has called on the Nigerian Police and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps to reinstate the security detail withdrawn from Senator Dino Melaye.
The senator at the plenary on Wednesday said that the security operatives attached to him had been withdrawn since he had a case with the police, adding that his life is in danger.
Melaye said efforts by him to get security detail from the police and other security agencies failed.
Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, who presided over the plenary, put the prayers to voice vote and it was resolved that Melaye’s security aides be reinstated.
The upper chamber of the National Assembly, however, rejected the call by Melaye that police deployment of 30,000 men in Ekiti state to monitor the governorship election on Saturday should be investigated.
Melaye, at the plenary on Wednesday, raised a point of order to condemn the police for deploying such a huge number of men in a state for an election when Nigerians were being killed by armed herdsmen and militias in other states.
