Lagos State Government has screened 140 private sector waste managers billed to join the state’s PSP operators.
This was revealed by the Special Adviser to the Governor on the Cleaner Lagos Initiative, Adebola Shabi, during a stakeholders’ meeting with community and religious leaders as well as market men and women in Iju, Ifako-Ijaiye.
According to Shabi, “If these people distribute these premises at 400 apiece, they would still have left over. But the government, in its magnanimity, has even brought them back to continue their operations and they should continue to cart away domestic waste.
“The government will not hesitate to withdraw the certificate of anyone who refuses to work. About 140 fresh applicant operators have been screened by the government waiting to be deployed to work across the state.”
He added that, “There is no truth in the speculation that the government has stopped the PSP operators on waste disposal from working. The government only asked them to focus on commercial aspect of waste collection.”
