Struggling Heartland sank deeper in the relegation waters on Sunday after suffering a 1-0 defeat to local rivals Rangers in the Nigeria Professional Football League.
The result leaves the Flying Antelopes in 10th even as Heartland remain rooted to the bottom of the log.
Ifeanyi George’s 13th minute strike was the difference between both southeastern sides.
And things got worse for the Naze Millionaires in the 52nd minute when ThankGod Ike was dismissed for an infringement.
“Thank God we won because it would have been more disastrous if we had failed to win this match, Rangers handler Gbenga Ogunbote said.
“It is a nice result because the result matters a lot than the goals, and had it been that we have been winning our home matches with 1-0 we would have been better placed than 10th in the league.’’
He promised to ensure the seven-time Nigerian champions improved when the league resumes after the World Cup.
“The league is still a little bit far from being over and many matches are still to come. So, we are going to prepare well to make the state government and the supporters proud at the end of the season,” he added.
