West Brom defender Jonny Evans has agreed to join Leicester after they met his relegation release clause, according to Sky sources.

Evans was the subject of failed bids from both Arsenal and Manchester City last year, but the Foxes now appear to be in pole position to sign the central defender after agreeing a deal to pay £3.5m in two instalments.

The 30-year-old Northern Ireland defender was part of the West Brom side that was relegated from the top flight last season.

Evans, who has played 70 times for his country, joined the Baggies from Manchester United in 2015 and is set to become Claude Puel’s second signing of the summer following the arrival of Porto defender Ricardo Pereira.
