A first-half goal was all Czech Republic needed to secure victory over Nigeria in a tune-up for the 2018 Fifa World Cup on Wednesday in Austria.

Nigeria began the game on a sloppy note, as they did against England, and were punished by the Europeans who took the lead in the 25th minute via Tomas Kalas.

Kalas latched onto a rebound after the Nigerian defenders were caught flatfooted.

The three-time African champions waited until the later part of the opening half to get their groove on.

The game was interrupted for about five minutes due to heavy rains as the second half resumed.

Despite the introduction of Kelechi Iheanacho, Simeon Nwankwo, Ahmed Musa, and Tyronne Ebuehi, Eagles’ waves of attack could not break their opponents with Victor Moses missing a clear-cut chance.

Nigeria have now lost two straight World Cup warm-ups as they get ready to face Argentina, Iceland and Croatia in Group D of the competition which begins next Wednesday.
