Four patients have had successful cardiac heart surgery at the University of Jos Teaching Hospital (JUTH).
Concise News gathered that the operation lasted for about one week and was performed at the hospital’s main theatre in partnership with some visiting surgeons and cardiologists from the hospital.
Two closed and two open surgeries were carried out on the children during the period with ages ranging from nine years to 15 months.
Chief Medical Director of the hospital Edmund Banwat while speaking on the development, weekend, described it as a landmark event in the country’s health sector,
According to Banwat, JUTH has “made a bold statement that cardiac hear surgery is very possible here in Jos University Teaching Hospital. We have exceeded our expectations. Achieving this great feat would not have been possible without all of you here.”
In addition, he said surgery has raised the capacity of JUTH as there was a transfer of skills from the foreign medical experts.
It was gathered that medical experts across several health professions were at the hospital during the operation.
