President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday met behind closed doors with a former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Ali Modu Sheriff, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Sheriff, who is a former governor of Borno state had last year met with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
The former governor arrived the villa at about 2:40pm and this is the first time he will be meeting with Buhari since the former was ousted as PDP’s caretaker committee’s chairman.
After the meeting, Sheriff avoided journalists, despite his initial promise to speak with them.
He, however, exchanged pleasantries briefly with some state governors who were there for a meeting of the National Economic Council presided over by Osinbajo.
Sheriff had met with Borno APC members and governor Kashim Shettima of Borno at the government House in Maiduguri on May 3.
The national leadership of the APC had also advised him and others interested in joining the party to do so at ward level rather than approaching the national secretariat in Abuja.
The former governor lost the battle for the chairmanship of the PDP at the Supreme Court last year.
According to reports, one of Buhari’s daughters is married to Sheriff’s son.
