Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has called on the people of the state to be law-abiding and restrain from reprisal attacks no matter the provocation.
He made this known during the inauguration of 10 first-class chiefs at the IBB square, Makurdi, on Monday.
The governor said the state is not fighting a war with any ethnic group.
He said: “Let me say that the state has passed through the crisis but we thank God for peace now. Let me emphasise here that we in the state are not at war with any ethnic group, the enactment of the anti-open grazing law was to ensure peace in the state.
He advised traditional leaders on proper behaviour, saying, “You should also avoid social relationships that are improper or give rise to an appearance of impropriety that cast doubt on the institution’s ability to decide cases impartially or bring disrespect to the traditional institution.”
