The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said it would not allow factional or parallel congresses by political parties.
Concise News gathered that the electoral body said that it will only recognize congresses approved by the National Working Committees of the parties.
INEC Director of Election and Party Monitoring (EPM) Aminu Idris revealed this in Abuja at the Nigerian Political Parties Discussion Series (NPPDS).
Idris said, “INEC only recognise congresses conducted by the congress committee appointed and approved by the parties.
“The INEC cannot go to the field and be looking for parallel congresses outside the ones conducted by the congress committee appointed by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the parties.
“It is the responsibilities of the parties to obey their constitutions and their approved guidelines.”
