The Ekiti State Elders’ Forum of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has congratulated the party’s candidate in July’s governorship election in the state, Kayode Fayemi, on his victory at the party’s primary held last Saturday.
According to the elders, all leaders and members of the party should support Fayemi and ensure his victory in the July 14 governorship election.
The group commended Fayemi for reaching out to co-contestants who lost to him in the primary election and giving them roles in the Candidate Advisory Council.
In a communiqué issued at the end of its meeting, which was made available to journalists on Tuesday, the Forum hailed the aspirants and delegates for conducting themselves in a peaceful manner at the rescheduled primary.
The communiqué signed by the Ekiti APC Elders’ Forum Chairman, Chief George Akosile and Secretary, Chief Abiodun Ajayi, commended the Governor Umaru Al-Makura-led Electoral Panel for overseeing a credible and transparent primary election.
The elders urged party leaders, aspirants and members to put the acrimony of the primary election behind them and forge a common front for the governorship poll.
They said with the primary election over, all hands must be on deck to win Ekiti for the party and bring the state into the progressive bloc.
However, the group condemned the circumstances that led to the inconclusive primary of May 5 at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium, Ado-Ekiti.
It also noted with displeasure what it called “the barbaric behavior” of some people who “desecrated” the APC secretariat in Ado-Ekiti with fetish objects.
