Shiite protesters on Monday grounded the Federal Secretariat complex in Abuja, as they took over the roads in protest against the continued detention of their Ibrahim El-Zakzaky.
According to reports, the youth, who were armed with stones, chased away a police team and overturned a traffic warden cabin on the road.
They also reportedly injured the Federal Secretariat Divisional Police Crime officer in the face after he asked them to stop harassing motorists.
Chanting “Free El-Zakzaky,” the Shiites, who are members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, dared the Police to engage and dislodge them.
It was learned that a team of policemen later arrived to dislodge the angry youths.
The secretariat complex is a few metres away from the National Assembly and the Presidential Villa.
