President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday reassured Nigerians that the unity of the country will remain his paramount objective and that of his administration. Buhari Departs Saturday For Meeting With Trump

President Muhammadu Buhari will depart Nigeria on Saturday to meet with President of the United States Donald Trump at the White House in Washington DC. Buhari will hold a bilateral meeting with Trump and a working lunch on Monday, according to the Nigerian leader’s top media aide Femi Adesina.

Chairman of Nigeria’s Governors’ Forum (NGF), Gov. Abdul’aziz Yari of Zamfara, says governors can not enforce maximum security in their states because they are not in control of security agencies. Yari told newsmen in Abuja at the end of the NGF meeting on Thursday that the governors were working energetically with the federal government to tackle the lingering security challenges across the nation.

No Town Is Under Boko Haram Control – Adesina

The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, says there is no single town in the country that is under the control of the Boko Haram insurgents. Adesina stated this during his appearance on a special programme on Channels Television. He also believes President Buhari’s administration has won the war against the insurgency to a notable extent, except for the ‘strike and vanish’ activities of the insurgents.

APC Announces New Dates For Congresses, National Convention

The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Friday announced new dates for the conduct of elections at the different levels of the party’s leadership. The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, said the ward congresses would now hold on May 5, local government congresses would hold on May 12, while the state congresses will hold on May 19, 2018. As for the national convention, he said the party only said that it would hold in June and that the exact day would be announced later.

Army Arrests Key Boko Haram Suspect Linked To Benue Attacks

The Nigerian Army has announced the arrest of a major Boko Haram suspect alleged to have masterminded most of the recent attacks in Benue state. The Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 707 Special Forces Brigade in Makurdi, Olabisi Olalekan Ayeni, made this known in a statement on Friday. Ayeni said Aminu Yaminu, who is nicknamed Tashaku was arrested on Friday in Makurdi, the state capital by a combined team of troops of 707 Special Forces Brigade, Nigeria Police and the Department of State Services.

FG Completes Timetable For Ogoni Clean-up

The Federal Government says it has completed timetable for the clean-up of hydrocarbon impacted communities in four Local Government Areas of Ogoni land in Rivers state.
