A German court on Tuesday sentenced a truck driver to two-and-a-half-years in prison for smuggling refugees into Germany.
The man is said to have smuggled in 50 Iraqis and one Syrian through the Germany-Poland border in September 2017.
The driver, a Turkish man, was apprehended when the refugees were discovered during a routine check by German federal police officers on a motorway in the east German Oder-Spree district, near the Polish border.
The migrants were said to be hidden on the trailer of the truck between two different loads.
The judge, in his sentence, said the driver endangered the lives of the migrants and was and was indifferent to their situation.
