Sixteen Ukrainians have been arrested by the Nigerian army in Bonny, Rivers State, for suspected illegal oil trade.
They were caught while carrying drums suspected to be automated gas oil, without relevant documentation.
Captain Suleiman Olorundare, Commanding Officer, FOB Bonny, said the activities of the foreigners violated the law of cabotage.
He said the navy had handed them over to operatives of the security operatives of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
“The ship was arrested in our Maritime environment. She was engaged in illegal trading activities that contravene our national law, especially the Cabotage law,” Olorundare said.
