95 widows of men of the Nigerian Army who fell in the course of duty have been given N19m by the Arm as part of efforts to ease the hardship the loss has heaped on them.
The women, residents of the Abakpa and Awkunanaw Barracks in Enugu state, each received the sum of N200,000.
This was disclosed on Saturday in a statement released by Col. Sagir Musa, the deputy director of Army Public Relations of the 82 Division.
According to the statement, the presentation held on Friday and was carried out by Maj.- Gen. Adamu Abubakar, the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 82 Division of the Nigerian Army.
Abubakar, on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, urged the beneficiaries to make use of the money judiciously. He also thanked the state governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, for his support.
The N19m is a part of the N19.6m which Ugwuanyi presented to the GOC on February 17 in fulfilment of a promise he made.
Ugwuanyi had the 2018 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration pledged to empower the widows of fallen heroes of the Division.
