A social activist, Deji Adeyanju, has dragged President Muhammadu Buhari to court over his recent appointment of Ahmed Rufai Abubakar as the new Director General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA).

Abubakar was appointed to replace Ayodele Oke, who was sacked due to the discovery of large amounts of foreign and local currencies by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in a residential apartment at Osborne Towers, Ikoyi, Lagos, over which the NIA made a claim.

Until his appointment, Abubakar, a retired career Foreign Service officer, was serving as the Senior Special Assistant to the President (SSAP) on Foreign Affairs/International Relations.

In a post on his Twitter page on Saturday, Adeyanju, a former member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), revealed he has sued the president.

He said the president did not comply with Federal Character as stipulated in Section 14 (3) of the Nigerian constitution.

Adeyanju wrote: “I have dragged President Buhari to court over his appointment of NIA, DG. It is tribalism taken too far.

“The president didn’t comply with Federal Character as stipulated in Section 14 (3) of our constitution All security heads appointed by him are all from the same region -NORTH.”
