North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un has urged his country to mass-produce nuclear warheads and missiles in the year 2018, despite increasing UN sanctions.
“We must mass-produce nuclear warheads and ballistic missile and speed up their deployment,” Kim said in a defiant New Year message on Monday.
He reiterated his claims that his country had achieved its goal of becoming a nuclear power.
The Asian country intensified its efforts to become a nuclear state in 2017.
It carried out multiple missile tests which included a hydrogen bomb.
The North says its weapons programme is designed to be able to target the US mainland.
And in his response, US President Donald Trump threatened to “totally destroy” Pyongyang, saying the North Korean leader was on “a suicide mission.”
