Governor Nyesom Wike Rivers State is seeking the withdrawal of money from the Excess Crude Account (ECA) to tackle environmental challenges in the Niger Delta.
Wike said this to journalists after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Friday.
The governor’s proposal came while reacting to the approval given by the Governor’s Forum to the Federal Government for the withdrawal of $1billion from the Excess Crude Account for the fight against insurgency.
Wike said while he supports the fight against insurgency, the approval by the Governor’s Forum is illegal.
On the reason of his visit, Wike said he briefed the president about security issues in his state, without giving further details.
