Birmingham has won the hosting right for the 2022 Commonwealth Games after Durban was stripped of the event, says the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF).

Durban was stripped as host in March 2017 following failure to meet the criteria set out by the Games Federation.

The British city was picked despite being the only city to submit a bid within the Commonwealth Games Federation’s (CGF) deadline of the end of September.

The city will now battle a shortened schedule for the competition, 27 months less than what had been planned when the first selection process ended.
