27 people are reported dead after a gunman opened fire at a church in Texas during Sunday services.
The body count was provided by a police commissioner who was at the scene. at the scene confirmed that at least 27 people had died.
The shooting took place at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, southeast of San Antonio, reports said.
They said the shooter walked into the church shortly before noon and opened fire. A two-year-old was among the wounded, the Dallas Morning News website reported.
The San Antonio FBI branch said its agents had been deployed and only one shooter has been reported. The bureau, however, added it is looking at other possibilities.
The shooter, later identified as Devin Patrick Kelley of New Braunfels, Texas, was killed after a brief chase into neighbouring Guadalupe County. It has not been ascertained yet if it was suicide or he was shot by a local resident who pursued him.
Sutherland Springs is a rural community with under a thousand residents. The victims include children with more than four of them in hospitals receiving treatment, a hospital spokesman told NBC News.
