The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), and the Joint Action Committee (JAC), LAUTECH chapter, have denied knowledge of the September 15 resumption date.
This was disclosed by the university’s ASUU chairman, Dr Biodun Olaniran and his JAC counterpart, Muraina Alesinloye.
According to the duo, none of the university’s workers unions have been intimated on the decision nor do they plan to obey any such directive.
Alesinloye, whose JAC is an umbrella body for the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) and National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT), told The Punch that neither in his capacity as SSANU chairman nor JAC chairman has he been told the university would be opening on September 15.
He said: “We are not aware of the resumption and you will agree with me that you cannot obey any directive which you are not aware of.”
This position was reiterated by the ASUU chairman who said the union was not aware that the university authorities had announced a resumption date.
“We (ASUU) will not resume until our demands are met. Until our demands are addressed, the strike continues,” he told Punch.
