The verdict was passed in a Karmo Grade 1Area Court, Abuja on Friday by Justice Abubakar Sadiq.
Sadiq gave the verdict after Lawal pleaded guilty to the two count charge levelled against him.
The judge said that the punishment would have been severe if he had not pleaded guilty and saved the court the pains of protracted prosecution.
Prior to the judgement, the prosecuting counsel, Auhioboh Florence, told the court that one Tina Bawa of 1st Avenue Gwarinpa, Abuja, reported the matter at the Gwarinpa Police Station on Aug. 7.
Florence said that the convict committed the offence on the same date at about 6.25 a.m. at Gwarinpa.
She also said that the convict criminally trespassed into the complainant’s shop and stole a plate valued at N5,000, cooking pot valued at N7,000 and baby cord worth N15,000.
During police investigation and interrogation, the accused admitted to committing the offence, the prosecutor said; while the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 348 and 287 of the Penal Code.
Following the plea of the convict, the prosecutor prayed the court to try him summarily, under Section 347 of the Administration of Criminal Justices Act, 2015
