Ibrahim Abubakar, 20, has been sentenced to two weeks imprisonment for driving a tricycle without learner’s permit.
Abubakar was sentenced on Thursday in a Grade 1 Area Court, Kado, Abuja.
The tricycle driver, who lives in Karmo village, Abuja, was arraigned on one count charge of causing obstruction and driving with no learner’s permit.
He was however given an option of N1,000 fine by the Presiding Judge, Alhaji Ahmed Ado.
Ado also advised him to be more careful while driving, even as he urged him to get a driver’s licence.
The judge warned him to desist from committing crime, adding that the punishment would serve as a deterrent to other would be offenders.
Before the verdict, Abubakar, who had pleaded guilty to the charge, prayed the court to temper justice with mercy.
Prior to the judgement, the prosecutor, Judith Obatomi, told the court that on July 30, the convict committed the offence around the Life Camp junction, Abuja.
Obatomi said that Abubakar obstructed the road with his tricycle even though, he was still a learner without a learner’s permit to show that he was still learning.
The prosecutor also said that the team of police on patrol in the area questioned him but he did not give a satisfactory explanation.
