Sultan of Sokoto Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III has directed Muslims in Nigeria to observe Eid-el-fitr on Sunday to effectively mark the end of Ramadan.
The Sultan, who is also the President-General Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), said the directive followed the sighting of the moon in some locations in Nigeria.
Seven countries have also announced end of Ramadan, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Malaysia, Indonesia, United Arab Emirates, Morocco and Senegal.
The Sultan said that the moon was sighted in parts of the country including Borno, Yobe and Adamawa.
He therefore called on Muslims all over Nigeria to cease to fast as it is not permitted to fast on Sallah day.
