The Rivers state Police Command on Saturday announced the arrest of an octogenarian for possession of large cache of live cartridges.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Command’s spokesperson, Nnamdi Omoni.
According to the statement, the suspect, Nworia Weli, was arrested alongside one Henry Chukwuemeka with packs of bullets stacked in plastic containers.
The statement read, in part: “The Operatives of the Ahoada Area Command, acting on a tip-off arrested one Henry Chukwuemeka of Onitsha, Anambra state who was found with about one thousand pieces of live cartridges stacked in two twenty liters plastic containers and was on his way to deliver them to one Nworia Weli, 82 years old of Rumuche Emohua, in whose possession about seventy-five (75) live cartridges were recovered.
“He is said to be supplying them to criminals.
“Both suspects are helping the Police at FSARS and will be due in court as soon as investigation is over.”
