A committee member of the Nigerian Basketball Federation (NBBF), Ajibarede Bello has backed the idea of open camps for national teams where those good enough get selected on merit only.
Bello stated this in a chat with Brila FM.
The dichotomy of foreign and home-based players in the national teams has been a talking point that already proliferates sports with the biases and subjective views expressed by professionals and fanatics.
Speaking on a more personal note, the basketball administrator believes a certain good can come from creating a quota system in national teams selections.
“If I’m in the position to take a decision, I’d insist on every national team going out to take two home-based players. But, it’s a bigger equation than that,” he said.
