Lagos State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Lola Akande, has stated her shock at the result of the assault on Mercy Aigbe.
The commissioner, during a brief chat with newsmen in Lagos, said Mercy had bruises all over her and was coughing blood when she came to her for help.
In her words, “She was coughing blood from her mouth and nose, and she had injury on her face which the doctor said must be operated on.
“I was so angry that I said I need to see the face of the man that did this to her. So, we invited him and he came yesterday (Tuesday) to say his own side of the story to the officials in charge of domestic violence.
“But any man that can beat a woman like that to the extent that she is still coughing out blood one week after the incident needs to have his head examined,” she stated.
Easing the tension in the actress’ home, Lola Akande said that the Lagos State government had issued a restraining order against her husband.
The actress’ husband, Lanre, was interrogated on Tuesday by the Lagos State Department of Domestic and Sexual violence Response Team (DSVRT).
Akande commended the actress for gathering the courage to speak out about her ordeal and she encouraged other women in similar situations to do the same.
“I must commend the courage of Mercy because what she did is what other women who are victims of domestic violence out there need to do, they don’t need to hide it except they want to die there,” Akande added.
