The Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta has been upgraded into a university and is to be known as the Moshood Abiola University of Science and Technology (MAUST).
This became official on Monday after Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun state signed into law the bill enabling the upgrade.
He also signed into law a bill to establish the Ogun State Polytechnic, Ipokia in Yewa area of the state.
Amosun signed the bills during the state’s Executive Council meeting at the governor’s office in Abeokuta.
He said MAUST would operate a multi-campus system and is expected to boost science and technology in the state.
Ogun had named the state stadium in Abeokuta after him.
Amosun commended the State House of Assembly for the speedy passage of the bills.
Speaking with newsmen after the signing, Suraj Adekunbi, the Speaker of the House, expressed his belief that establishment of the two institutions would create more jobs in the state.
