A Grade 1 Area Court, Karmo, Abuja, on Thursday sentenced one Shaibu Ibrahim, 26, to four months imprisonment for stealing a tricycle, also known as Keke.
He was convicted on a three-count charge bordering on joint act, criminal trespass and theft.
These offences are punishable under Sections 79, 348 and 288 of the Penal Code.
The convict prayed the court to temper justice with mercy, that hunger pushed him to commit the crime.
However, the judge who presided over the case gave him N20,000 option of fine and warned him to desist from committing crimes.
The judge also ordered him to pay N50, 000 to the nominal complainant.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Florence Auhioboh, told the court that one Olatu Adedayo of Gwarimpa, Abuja reported the matter at the Gwarimpa Police Station on Feb. 11.
Auhioboh said that on Feb. 9, the convict and two others who are now at large, criminally conspired and entered into the complainant’s compound and stole his tricycle.
During police investigation, the tricycle was recovered at Karmo, with some of the parts missing, Auhioboh said.
The prosecutor put the total value of the parts at N51, 000.
