No fewer than eight people have been killed in Zamfara State, as herdsmen clashed with community members of Rukumawa Tsafe Local Government Area of the state.
Shaba Alkali, the State Police Commissioner told newsmen that the victims were ambushed by gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen while on a reconciliatory mission on behalf of the district head of Rukumawa Tsafe.
Sources told Channels Television that the eight persons sent by the district were killed by the suspected herdsmen.
Also speaking to Channels Television, an eyewitness said, ”What do we do, we hardly see our governor, he has not visited any of the affected communities.
”We are being killed, our villages being set on fire and the farm produce eaten by cows”.
Zamfara State and other states across Nigeria has come under increased attacks by gun men suspected to be herdsmen.
The killing which has led to the loss of life in many communities has attracted condemnation from both The Federal Government and Stakeholders alike.
A special operation called ‘Operation Harbin Kunama’ was lunched last year in Dansadau forest by President Muhammadu Buhari, to put a stop to the herdsmen killings.
