The Commissioner for Human Capital Development and Poverty Reduction in Enugu state, Obinna Mbaeke said the state has adopted the town unions in the state as its fourth tier of government.
He said this during an interview with pressmen on Friday.
He said this will facilitate the government efforts in developing the rural communities.
According to him, the essence of the town unions is for development to trickle down to rural communities. For this to happen, the government needs to know the needs of the rural dwellers.
The commissioner added that the government is planning a town hall meeting with the union where needs that have not been met will be identified.
The commissioner also said, “strategies can be put in place to ensure that poverty is reduced drastically.”
He urged the people to partner with the government and ask questions when and where necessary so as to be involved in what government is doing.
“Freedom of Information Law has been passed, so people can ask questions on any government policy or programmes from any commissioner,” he added.
Mbaeke restated the determination of the present administration to do everything within its resources to reduce poverty among its citizens.
