It was one of the matchday six duels of the Nigeria Professional Football League played on Sunday in Makurdi, the Benue state capital.

Eduwo broke the deadlock in the 52nd minute after the Tourists had held firm in the keenly contested game.

The Pride of Benue doubled their lead three minutes from time when Kwambe clinically converted from the spot to ensure the Bauchi Elephant return to the northeast empty-handed.

Baba Ganaru sad over defeat

Wikki head coach, Baba Ganaru, said afterwards that while he was satisfied with his team’s performance he was unhappy with the outcome.

“Though we lost this match, but what I have seen today from it shows the team is ready to prosecute its continental games and I am happy,” he said.

Lobi coach impressed

On his part, Evans Ogenyi, Lobi Stars assistant coach, expressed satisfaction with the result, adding that he has confidence in his team.

“This match is like a world-class game. Wikki Tourists are on their way to Sierra Leone for their CAF Confederation Cup campaign, but my players did well to handle them.

“However, it was also an open game, and we took our chances for the three points,’’ he said.
