Nigerian champions Rangers FC have been handed a total fine of N3.75 million by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) over the fracas that occurred during their Match Day 1 encounter against visiting Abia Warriors.
The football body’s disciplinary committee said it took the decision after considering the available facts before it as contained in the written submission from both clubs, Match Commissioner and Referee’s Reports.
The Flying Antelopes were fined N750, 000 for their failure to ensure restriction of access by unauthorized persons from all restricted areas in the course of a match.
Also they were handed N1 million fine for encroachment and throwing of objects towards the field of play at the end of the match
The seven-time league winners will also pay N500, 000 for ‘attempted assault’ and hauling of missiles at the match officials, and another N500,000 being compensation of N250,000 each to the two injured officials (the Match Commissioner and injured Mobile police officer).
Rangers were also fined N1 million as cost for the Committee sitting in line with Rule E1.
The Enugu-based side were equally warned against a repeat of the incident, failure for which the football body shall impose further sanctions not limited to ordering for a closed door home matches to be played by the team.
