Two popular markets in Yola and Lagos have been decimated by fire. The old Jimeta Market in Yola and the Balogun Market in Lagos.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the Yola fire is reported to have happened at night after the close of business and raged for about three hours before it was quenched by firemen from the American University of Nigeria, Yola.
The state governor, Muhammadu Bindow, visited the scene and promised that the fire would be investigated by a committee to be headed by the district head of Jimeta.
Only a section of the market was adversely affected by the fire.
Meanwhile, in Lagos, traders at the popular Balogun Market were preparing to start their day of commercial activities when a section of the market went up in flames.
Reports say the fire occurred in the ankara (traditional fabric) section of the market.
No cause has yet been found for the fire nir has any casualty being reported.
