Ongoing schools projects in Oju, Obi and Otukpo local government councils of Benue state were, on Friday, inspected by officials of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).
The inspectors included Philip Tachin, the Chairman of the board, and Tahav Agerhav, a Special Adviser to Governor.
Speaking to teachers of the inspected schools, the board’s chairman promised prompt payment of their salaries and other emoluments.
He asked that the teachers not relent in carrying out their duties. The students should be given proper education that includes the inculcation of moral values.
While on the tour, he also commended the efforts of the contractors and assured them of fair treatment from the board. In the same breath, he warned them against the use of substandard products in the building of the structures.
According to NAN, head teachers in the visited schools expressed their joy at the ongoing projects as their pupils will get to be taught in conducive environments.
Some teachers were observed holding classes under trees.
Peter Ugele, the Head Teacher, Junior Secondary School, Ainu Centre in Oju Local Government said this was the first time the government was directly intervening in the development of schools’ infrastructure in the area.
