Following the poor start to the NPFL season due to poor refereeing, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on Tuesday promised to fall hard on under-performing referees.

On Saturday, the NPFL opened with a match between Kano Pillars and Ifeanyi Ubah which was called off after the Ifeanyi Ubah FC players refused to come on for the second after feeling slighted by a wrong call by the centre referee

The referee at the centre of it all, Folusho Ajayi, blew the whistle for half time just as the Ifeanyi Ubah player was running up to play a freekick. The kick ended up in the goal but she cancelled it as she said the whistle had been blown for half time.

This did not go down well with Ifeanyi Ubah FC players and officials, who decided to not show up for the second half.

Ajayi has since then been referred to the NFF for further investigation.

They have been fined for this wrong behaviour by the league management.

A Performance Review Committee whose job is to review referee performances has been instituted and decisions would be made based on reports from the committee.
