On Sunday, a man was lynched and set ablaze in Gbatse community in Ushongo, Benue State, because he was caught trying to steal the community’s water pump.
Adanyi Gbatse, who is a community youth leader, said the unknown man and others who had escaped, gained entrance into the fenced area at the Primary Health Care Centre, where the pump had been fixed and tried to disassemble it.
According to Dailypost, the vigilant neighbours who usually kept an eye on the place due to its significance to their community, noticed at midnight strange movements within the premises of the motorised borehole.
Adanyi said one of the suspects was apprehended when he tried to escape with the motorcycle they had brought, which failed to start.
