22-year-old Qudus Bakare accussed of stealing a N45 000 fridge was arraigned before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ court, to face a one count charge of stealing.
The Police Prosecutor, Inspector Innocent Uko, according to NAN, told the court that the accused committed the offence on the 14th of January, at Deborah Shopping Complex, Ajara area of Badagry.
He said the fridge belonged to the complainant, Mr Grillo Adebanji.“The complainant was taking the fridge for repairs when he dropped it by the roadside in order to look for a car that will carry it.” He narrates
“Within the twinkle of an eye, the accused came out of nowhere and took the fridge and started walking away like nothing happened.” He continued,
Adding that “When he was caught, he claimed that he carried the fridge to carry out test on it,”
Uko said the offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria 2011.
Accused To Pay A N 100,000 Bail For Stealing Fridge
The accused however pleaded not guilty to the charge, but the defence counsel, mr Obinna Uwachukwu, pleaded with the court to grant the accused bail on liberal terms.
The Magistrate, Mr Abiodun Etti, granted the accused N100, 000 bail and a surety who must provide evidence of tax payment to Lagos State Government and adjourned the case till Feb. 10 for next sitting.
