The non-academic staff of Lagos State University (LASU), complied with the five-day warning strike declared by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the unions in the institution.
The unions in the committee are the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) and the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT).
The unions had earlier given notice of their intention to embark on strike in protest of the government’s non-compliance with the 2009 agreement they made with the unions.
Mr Saheed Oseni, Chairman of SSANU(LASU Chapter), told NAN that unions totally complied with the industrial action in line with the directive of their national bodies.
All administrative activities in the institution have been grounded as all non-academic staff have downed tools, following the directive by JAC.
Also, the body has put in place structures to ensure total compliance from all of its members. He said that they have created a strike monitoring team for this purpose.
Oseni implied the possibility of further action but said “we will await further directive from our leaders on the next line of action if the government does otherwise, as failure to do the needful, will be unacceptable to the unions.”
Mr Albert Agosu, NASU-LASU chairman also confirmed that the union members in the institution had commenced the strike as directed.
A letter, he said, had been sent to the school’s management to intimate them on the strike action.
“Henceforth, for the five days declared, the strike will be total as directed,’’ he said.
