Kano state government on Thursday donated N5.4 million to retired members of the Nigerian Armed Forces in the state.
This was announced at the launch of the 2017 Nigeria Armed Forces Remembrance Day appeal fund at the Government House, Kano.
The state governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Usman Alhaji, made a personal donation of N100,000 to the fund.
Speaking at the event, Alhaji said the fund was created to cater to the needs of ex-servicemen and women.
He called on the rich and corporate organisations to not only donate but always remember the sacrifices these men and women of valour have made to keep Nigeria one and defended. A duty that some have paid for with their lives while others are disabled.
He also commended members of the armed forces and the police for their contributions to the maintenance of peace in the state.
The Chairman of Nigerian Legion, Kano State Chapter, Malam Abdullahi Bagobiri, thanked the governor for supporting the legion, who he hailed for their steadfastness, perseverance and exemplary conduct, in many ways.
